MHOC was the winning bidder on a closed elementary school on Ashford St. The mayor met with MHOC and asked us to convert the school into much-needed senior housing. Working with the state legislature, MHOC was granted a special permit from the City of Methuen to add on and convert the building to 20 units for over age 55 residents. in less than 10 months the former school was converted into 20 one- and two-bedroom units each approximately 800 sf. The enthusiasm for the project was unbelievable. Some former students couldn’t wait to live in the same place they went to grammar school. All twenty units were sold in less than 48 hours. Even though there were no affordability requirements, MHOC priced the units at well below current rates in the Methuen area.
